The Day the Barn Didn’t Burn – January 14, 2022
Yesterday, there was a fire in the old barn—a good gut punch, a reminder of just how serious ranch work is and how blessed we are. Dan was supposed to be out of town, but COVID foiled his trip. Instead, he and our neighbor Jim leapt into action when billowing smoke began curling from the barn’s windows on a freezing morning. Five fire trucks, a sheriff, an ambulance, and just about every helpful neighbor showed up. The barn’s thick beams and deputy’s quick thinking—sealing doors to cut off oxygen—meant the blaze never fully caught.
The goats were unphased.
We learned that luck favors the prepared, and good neighbors are the secret sauce.
Never doubt the miracle of showing up at the right time.
Takeaway: On the ranch, it’s teamwork and quick thinking that keep history standing. Bless the wise neighbor who listens to promptings—and never underestimate the power of a freezing Wyoming morning to save the day.
